Manchester City vs Liverpool – the race for the title is on and I for one can’t wait! How about you?
Who will win the Barclays Premier League in 2019
Date: Sunday 12 May 2019
Kick off time: 15:00
The two games that will decide the title:
Brighton vs Manchester City at the American Express Community Stadium (Amex)
Liverpool vs wolverhampton Wanderes at Anfield
What the top of the table looks like going into the final game:
The race for the title Premier League goes to the last week of the season thanks to two teams who have been on incredible winning runs.
In what has been a remarkable season it all comes down to one game and the side that finishes second will have a record number of points for a team, without winning the trophy.
Who needs to do what to win it?
The remaining fixture on Sunday12 May 2019 sees both games kick off at the same time so that there is no advance for one over the other team.
The periotations are as follows:
- Manchester City go into the games with a 1 point lead so a win for them and it doesn’t matter about the Liverpool result they will be crowned Champions for the second consecutive year.
- Liverpool win and they will need Man City to draw or lose and then they will be the Premier League Champions.
- If Manchester City lose and Liverpool draw they will both finish the season on the same points but then goal difference will come into it and unfortunately for Liverpool, Manchester City have scored 4 more than Liverpool.
All in all the cards are stacked in Manchester City’s favour. They are heavy favourites to retain the Premier League trophy.
You bet there will be last day thrills and spills!
As we know from previous last day, winner take all games, things are never quite as predictable as they seem.
Expect the lead at the top to change a few more times. Both teams are desperate to win it so no one will hold anything back from getting the result they need to win it.
This is the competitive and some say most entertaining league in the world so expect both Brighton and Wolvehampton to make it is as difficult as they can in both games. They to will be going all out to get the result for their respective clubs.
The winning run in the Premier League is incredible, Manchester City has 13 wins in a row Liverpool has 8 wins in a row. With no draw or losses between them.
How last season finished:
Last season ended with Manchester City collecting over one hundred points for the season and totally leaving everyone playing for a distant second place. Everyone thought that this season would be a repeat but here we are with a fantastic two horse race.
The story so far this season!
It seem unthinkable that one team (Liverpool) could go the whole season with just one defeat and not win the league, but that is what is the most likely outcome. If you look at the final day fixtures.
The one defeat that was inflicted on Liverpool during the season was against the rivals for the title Manchester City a 2-1 loss at Manchester City’s Ethiad stadium is proving to be the key result in this epic race for glory and the right to call yourselves Champions for the season.
It seems strange that Manchester City have lost 4 times In the Premier League to Liverpool’s one and yet the title is in their hands with Liverpool relying on Brighton to do them a favour against the might and the power of a star studed Manchester City squad..
The other decisive statistic is that Liverpool have drawn 7 times through the season to Manchester City’s 2 draws. One of which was against Liverpool at Anfield earlier in the season, could that end up being another decisive result when the games are finally done and dusted.
Manchester City have managed to overturn a seven point deficite that Liverpool had over them earlier in the season. The consistent winning run from them means it is now in City’s control.
Brighton’s recent results against Manchester City are poor to say the least, 4 straight Premier League defeats in a row scoring only 2 goals against them and conciding 8 goals.
From those results I’m not sure it worth betting on anything other that a man City victory and the balance of probabilities states that,If we went purely on that you may as well give city the trophy now, but this is football and anything can happen.
Let’s take a look at Wolverhampton Wanderers the opponents for Liverpool on the final day.
They have had a remarkable first season back in the Premier League and are sitting pretty in 7th place in the league.
With quality all through the team and an ability to beat the top 6 teams, this is not any easy last game day for Liverpool.
Both teams can hold their heads high. No one has bottled it this season. It is just unlucky that a record points total for one team will not be good enough to win them the league.
The rest of the last day fixtures for the Premier League 2019!
Besides the two fixtures which will have a bearing on the league title, there is not much else to play for in the remainng fixture besides pride and keeping your own fans happy.
Huddersfield, Fulham, and Cardiff have already been relegated to the Championship (the league below the Premier League). Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have claimed the remaining Champions League places.
Arsenal and Manchester United will be playing Europa Cup football next season.
As for the rest they are all safe and will be playing in the Premier League next season.
So all eyes will be focused on the top of the table outcome.
Get ready for non stop action!
This is the Premier League so expect the final day of the season to be action packed, full of drama, tension, quality, and excitement.
Don’t be surprised if the lead at the top of the table swaps over a couple more times before the 90 minutes of play is up and the referees blow the final whistle.
Who will be crowned Champions?
To some up for you: if Manchester City win it, they will have won back to back titles for the first time in the history and if Liverpool win, it will be their 19th top flight league win.
That I am afraid is up to Destiny.
You will just have to wait until Sunday and watch like the rest of the millions with baited breath, to find out as the action unfolds and this classic title race finally comes to a close.
Who do you think will be lifting the Premier League trophy in 2019?
