I often get asked the question why should I get my children to play football?

Football is team sport that means you are never on your own. It is a game that is played with passion and is full of emotion.

The game has turned into big business employing many people around the world, this means players of all ages will always be needed to keep the game going.

The game itself does not care what age, sex, size or shape you are. If you let it in, the game can deliver your a lifetime of joy (when you win) or moments of sadness (when you face defeat) Two key life lessons to learn.

There are many positive reasons, so I have decided to focus on some of them and hopefully you will be convinced that Football is fantastic and a sport well worth getting into.

You can kick a ball around no matter where you are.

I hope this information gives you a push in the right direction.  A yes to Football.

The Game Of Football.

Football is a sport that is fun to play.  Simply put, the aim of the game is to score goals and stop goals.  If you out score your opponents, you win the game.

Invented many years ago the game of football has evolved into something that has taken on a life of its own.

265 million male and female players, plus 5 million referees and officials make up a staggering total of 270 million people – about 4% of the world’s population – who are actively involved in the game of football.  These figures are from about 10 years ago so many more are involved today.

These numbers are amazing, they tell me that the game is alive and thriving.  They must all enjoying it or they would’nt be involved in these large numbers. They can’t all be wrong can they?

Let’s dig a bit deeper and find out what the game can do for your children and you.

1: The Social Side Of Soccer

In today’s world of high technology, mobile phones, and x box’s ( all wonderful if used in moderation) there is another option.

Yes you guessed it football. It gives you a social life away from the big and small screens.

Your children will make new friends and you will meet new people. How you ask?

If you go to a local club you will be welcomed with open arms. Teams are made up of 11 players plus substitutes. That’s a whole load of new friends for your children to meet. All of those children will be taken to practice and matches by parents, just like you.   Like attracts like so you already have something to talk about. Yes Football.

We are social beings at heart.  People need people to keep them company.  To keep your mind healthy we need to communicate with others.  The massive numbers involved in football should tell you that this sport will provide you with people to fill that need, and yes a social life.

2:Fit For Health

Why should I get outside and try football?

It provides you with a form of exercise. This gives you fitness and health and gives you a sense of well being.  Feeling well inside, tells your brain to release the good stuff to it, which makes you feel even better.

Football does not care what size or shape you are.  If you get yourself a football and start running around with it, then you are exercising.

When you do exercise that does not feel like exercise it becomes fun.  If you start playing with a football you won’t even see it as exercise.   It just happens naturally and you get fitter and healthier.

If you start to feel better your confidence grows. The difference in you will be noticed by all.

3: Leaning New Skills and Disciplines

It is healthy in life to have a hobby.  Football is a hobby.

When you join a team you will start to learn new skills.  How to play the game of football.  This will keep your brain occupied.

The discipline you need at training and practice to get the skills right will focus the mind.

Even turning up every week for practice and matches on time, is a good habit to get your child into, that is needed throughout your lifetime.

Working together with team-mates gives you life skills like helping out others.  Looking out for your friends.

This helps to get rid of selfish behaviour.  You start to become more rounded as a person.

4: The Carrot of Big Money

The lure and the carrot of the big moneythat the Players, Managers, Coaches earn at the highest level is definitely there and real.  It is not going away anytime soon.  It is waiting to be earned by anyone that is good enough, but first you must learn the skills and fall in love with football.  The money should not come into it. It follows in time when you have earned it.

The highest paid player in the world today is Lionel Messi.  He earned 111 Million Dollars in 2017/2018 (1 year).  There are many more not far behind him.  Who knows it may not be long before a player is earning a Billion Dollars a year?

This game is so much more than the money but its hard not to dream about this when you decide on this hobby.  Doing something you love in life and getting paid for it.  What could be better?

Remember to keep this in mind

The game of football should always be played for the love of it.

JUST GET GOING

If your mind has been changed and you are thinking of the benefits of it.   Just get going and do it.

We can all procrastinate forever.

Yes your children will be kicking and screaming when they get told that this is what is going to happen, and that they may lose some precious hours away from those screens, but this will soon be forgotten when they are laughing and having fun outside with new friends.

You too will need to be away from your modern day technology.  Don’t panic though, as you can now record all your favourite TV programmes, or use catch up TV.  Like I said not all modern gadgets are bad, used in the right way.

The key to it all is YOU.

You need to stay consistent and keep taking them to practice and matches.   It forms the new habit and corrects old behaviour patterns.

Don’t forget that you will be meeting new people and making new friends too.  Your social life will grow.

Your children will thank you in the long run.  Just give it time and a little effort.

If you are thinking this sounds like the game and sport for me, then keep these four positive reasons in mind and get going.

The beautiful game awaits you.
